Retromigration – Versace Sheets EP

Malik Kassim aka Retromigration is a young producer from Amsterdam that we’ve had our eyes and ears fully locked onto for the last couple of years. His unique blend of deep house and funk oozes class and always carries that all important groove. The latest offering from Retromigration is on relatively new record label Handy Records and does not disappoint.

The lead Track ‘Versace Sheets’ follows his signature deep, laid-back formula, with an uber-funky bassline leading the groove. Next up is Byron The Aquarius, with his live take on ‘Versace Sheets’. The Atlanta, Georgia resident brings a more melodic version to the table, with whirling keys and a subtle retro Detroit house bassline dropping in and out of the mix.

On the flip we get to sample a taste of Retromigration’s harder side, kicking things off with ‘Where’s The Mula’. Pumping bass and heavy percussion keep the track moving throughout. This one is sure to do some damage on the dancefloor! ‘TEF’ is another fast-paced affair with moody Rhodes and the 303 getting a good workout. The last track on the EP is called ‘Frontline High’. Definitely a track for those early morning hours, with a relentless pounding bass, Amen Break-style percussion and trippy modular atmospherics round of the release nicely.

We are excited to hear what comes next from Retromigration in the future, and guarantee it’s going to be worth grabbing. The Versace Sheets EP is available on vinyl from 11th Feb 2022.
