Bare Bones

North Wales based Gavin Hogan started his record label and brand Floorpiece five years ago along with its subsidiary labels Doppel-Audio, Silhouetted and One Of 4. Regularly gaining the support of the scene’s big hitters, this release marks the milestone of vinyl release number ten. To mark the occasion, he’s drafted in the skills of up-and-coming star Adam Nahalewicz. Adam already has several vinyl releases out on respected labels such as Burnski’s Aesthetic, Horay and Manchester label Distinct (plus a track about to drop on our very own Bare Bones), here he submits three original productions alongside a remix from Dutch producer Sota.

Title track “The Fortune Teller” sits firmly on the minimal edge of modern deep house music, with lush percussion that emanates an organic swingy feel. It is driven by a pulsating bassline and uplifting synth play to blinding effect. The second track “Just Like” follows much in the same vein but with a slightly deeper feel. Over on the flip, Sota provides a techier remix of “Just Like” using the elements of the original to build the track around a heavy bass alongside the synth lines. Finally, “Semi Skimmed” finishes off the package in style, with percussive stabs and robotic samples over a groove full of swing and bass. This is a very solid EP highlighting quality deep minimalistic house music. It’s just dropped on vinyl across all the stores and won’t be around for long, so be quick!
