UC Beatz – Nightzoom EP

Here we have the new release from Greek label B2 Records. In just a little over two years, they have managed to reach an impressive seven vinyl releases. Previous outings have predominately been from Athens based producers, but this time the label has spread its wings to enlist the services from Brussels based Phil Hawkins, aka UC Beatz. Alongside producing, Phil also runs a label that is no stranger to this blog, the highly successful Entrepôt Records. Having carved himself an impressive list of label releases on heavyweight outlets such as Classic Music Company, Razor N’ Tape, Crystal Grooves, and soon to be Bare Bones (shameless plug for our first EP coming Feb 22), all while simultaneously releasing on his own label. I suppose you could say he knows a thing or two about proper House music, as this EP demonstrates with four original tracks in UC Beatz’s diverse and unique style.

Up first is the title track “Nightzoom” with beautiful strings and repetitive vocals, akin to deep filter house records of the past, but with a modern take. The A2 track “Saraska” takes things deeper and more underground with acid licks and heavy percussion. This will be perfect for sweaty basements, and I, for one, can’t wait to give it a run out in this kind of environment! On the flip, “The Girl Who Loved Flowers” creates a nice deep groove with uplifting Rhodes, and spoken vocals intertwined with a hint of acid. Finally, “Stars Keep Shining” finishes the EP with extremely groovy keys played over a funky, deep percussive vibe. This EP won’t be around for long, so be quick and snag yourself a copy!
