Acid Jerks – Remote Area

The mighty Nu Groove Recordings has been releasing quality House Music since 1988.  Boasting an impressive artist roster, it was even an early haunt for one Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, who was yet to hook up with “Little” Louie Vega to forge the mighty Masters at Work.  In recent times the label has been picked up by Defected to release who have started putting out releases again in 2021 alongside their other sub labels including Glitterbox, Classic and Yourba.  This is the fifth release since coming into the stable.

I’ve no idea who the Acid Jerks are and I’ve never seen another release from them which makes me think it is a couple of larger well know producers working together under a new moniker.  The production quality certainly leads me to this conclusion as it is right on point.  The Ep kicks off with “Chocolate Factory” which is an acid led, old school sounding deep house monster. “Remote Area” swaps the acid for an uplifting piano and classic stabs for a great classic feel.  On the flip “Square One” has a heavy almost Techno feel, with driving beats and an angry repetitive acid synth perfect for peak time madness.  The final track is “The Tribute” and sounds like an ode to Lil Louis “French Kiss” but beefed up and brought into 2021.  It also probably my favourite on the EP, but all four tracks are class!
