Brawther – The Driver

The first release I heard from Alexandre Gouyette (Brawther) was an EP under the guise Izmo called “Where’s Eddie?”. This must have been around 2007 after he posted a link on the excellent www.undergroundhouse.net forum. I remember being blown away with the raw 90’s feel of the tracks that have a sort of New York sound but with a European twist. It was quite different to most other things being released at the time.  Since then, I’ve followed Alexandre with interest and picked up most of his releases over the years.

Here for his third outing on Cabinet Records we have two very friendly club-based DJ tracks. The title track “The Driver” is a bass heavy minimal workout, with a spoken vocal and a killer groove. It would fit perfectly into a set somewhere like Sunwaves.  On the flip “Basix (Deep Mix”) which is presumably named after the legendary Leeds club night, is more of a Deep House monster. The swing on the percussion really moves the track while being intertwined with a repetitive bassline and uplifting synths. It comes pressed on a beautiful orange vinyl and won’t stick around for long so be quick! Coincidentally I believe his Izmo “Where’s Eddie EP” has also been picked up again for a repress and is coming soon.
